The Stööki 'Self-Made' Spotlight Series series shines a spotlight on independent creatives who are doing bits with their craft.
Next up on our spotlight series we linked up with LJé Palmer. He bopped through the Stööki Studio to take some pics and shoot lil a impromptu freestyle video. Check out the visuals and what he had to say in response to our usual q & a…
Name: LJé Palmer
City: London
1. What’s your craft?
My craft is writing and executing. My craft is rap.
2. Song you can’t get out of your head…
Streets by Doja Cat
3. What’s important to you about being Self-Made?
The important thing to me about being self made? It’s that you yourself did it and no one can take it away from you because it was all due to you, your hustle, your struggle and your pain.
4. What advice would you give aspiring artists and creatives?
Hahaha thats hella ironic cos I’m not even sure if I’m the one to give advice cos I still have a little way to go, but I suppose it would be..embrace everything, the happiness, the small glories, the tears, the denial, the struggle and travel through it without it letting you get down on yourself or ever give up. As long as you're working hard and artistically immersed in your elevation as an artist and spreading love then you're doing fine.
5. Describe your style + influences?
My style is somewhat a combination of real introspective conscious shit, to some punk 808 shit, to some soft sentimental shit for the ladies and myself cos all of that is like therapy. I couldn’t put it into one word cos it changes all the time. My influences range from Nas, Eminem, MJ, Drake, Sade, Big, Pac.
6. What’s your main source of inspiration?
Main source of inspiration are cartoons and women.
Little weed now and again but not majorly a main source...most of it also comes from experiences I have from within so I guess a lot of my inspiration is pulled out of me through what I see and what I’ve felt.
7. Your ideal day off?
My ideal day off would probably involve a fat j to wake up, some sex, another j..breakfast while watching The Sopranos..smoke more weed and play crash bandicoot..sleep..wake up, smoke more weed..get lunch and go create some music.
8. Plans for 2020?
Plans for 2020 are to release “Now We Popping” on Thursday April 9th. This corona has put the video to a halt but we may still put out a single release on all platforms. Lets pray that this corona ends soon so we can give the fans the visuals asap. Afterwards I have a few more singles with some pretty dope features so excited for that..I also have an EP dropping. Its called Melting Colours..not gonna say when it’s dropping but it’s definitely at the top of this year. More shows as well..so really looking forward to it dropping so I can take this music to the people.
9. What do you like about The Stööki Movement?
Well first and foremost, I love jewellery and you guys make some of the best streetwear pieces I’ve seen as of late. I love how even though you guys make jewellery, you still uphold your own identity and I love how you guys support underground musicians coming up in the city. It’s refreshing
